This richly
crafted chandelier, sixteen feet in diameter, dates from the twelfth century
and hangs in the Klosterkirche at Grosscomburg, near Schwabisch Hall.
Its design, in copper with silver and gold decoration, is symbolic of
the Heavenly Jerusalem. As the emblem of Vienna's ambition and the target
of Emma's fury, the chandelier in Johnny Guitar (Nicholas Ray,
1954) serves different but related purposes.
